(Video)

[The video feed begins with Iris carefully clipping hair a flowery hairpin to one side of her hair; the iris hairpin Cilan gifted her with. She peers closely at the camera, turning right and left, admiring it from different angles before grinning.]

Well? How do I look? Super cute, right?

[A contented Axew sits in her lap, happily munching on some food, Emolga flies around in the background, and Dragonite skulks around the corner, just out of view.]

Ash came back late, like the tardy little kid he is, so his gift had to be super-duper-EXTRA late too! [She says it with a little pout before sticking out her tongue, then she smiles again because she's just teasing (really!).]

Hope you liked your gift anyway, though!

Somehow, I have a really good feeling about today...! I feel so excited, maybe it's because Ash is here now too... I'm going to go look for Excadrill in the forest... today'll definitely be the day I'll find 'em! I can sense it.

(Action)

[Ash, your gift is a simple lunch box that Iris has taken the liberty of exercising her childish artistic ability on, drawing a big, cartoony Charizard breathing fire on it. The box itself contains croquettes, because she heard from Cilan they're your favourites! Although, a good chunk of hers are kind of broken up and crumbly, not neat and picture-perfect like Cilan's. (Cut the girl some slack!)

It looks suspiciously like one or two might have been eaten, judging by the extremely brown crumbs that don't seem to fit in with the rest— oh, looks like she accidentally burned some and ate them to cover her tracks. WELL.

Silver, you get a silly drawing from Iris that shows a charmingly poorly-drawn Axew in a striped prisoner get-up, with the caption "SoRRy for BReaking And enteRing!"

Masaomi Kida, you get a T-shirt with the words "BAD INFLUENCE" drawn on it in marker. No explanation given?

Gold, you get a bright red scarf, three winter boots. The third one comes with a note that says, "SoRRy the otheR Shoe got eaten. Put Pencils in this one maybe."

Mizuno Ami, your clinic will be full of medicinal herbs, the kind Iris has been collecting for some time now. There will be little notes not-so-carefully scattered through drawers, on table-tops, some stuck to the walls, on their uses and different means of preparation... all written in very clumsy kana. Bear with her! ♥

Otono-Tachibana Makie, you will receive a group of apples, haphazardly tied together with ribbon, with a note that bears nothing a simple thank you「ありがとう」 and a pawprint! Emolga's, no doubt.]

I didn't know you knew Ash, too! Oh, and what's an Excadrill?

[Sadly, at least one of Iris's gifts will not have a recipient; as Makie had gone home the prior month.]

Iris nods.] I travelled with Ash and Cilan all over the Unova region! We're all good friends.

And Cilan, too? I'm glad to hear that. So all you guys are reunited here in this place?

Yup! I hope he wasn't too lonely before...

He has us now here, though, and Chili! They don't look alike outside of the clothes, but you know, Cilan and his brothers are triplets!

He didn't travel with us, though, so it's pretty lucky that he has him here in such a weird place. I wonder if they know who we're related to when they bring us in...?

I hope he wasn't lonely either... at least there's been lots of Pokemon trainers around to keep him company! I never knew he was triplets... that's really neat!

It is lucky that you had each other now. I don't think anyone can control who gets into this world so it must just be luck!

It is, it is! They're all super different too! Cilan's really dependable, even if he gets really excited like a little kid sometimes... but Chili. [She waves her hands dismissively.] That one needs to be watched over or he'll do something crazy!

Maybe it was luck, or maybe it was destined! Just like it was destined that same Dragon who chose Ash to be the Hero of Ideals led me to meet him— 'cause there was a big storm I could see from all the way in the forest! When I started travelling with him, I met Cilan too!

That's a nicer way to think of it, I think! 'Cause this way, if it isn't just luck, maybe we could all be drawn together to meet again someday, no matter where we are.

[If this is after Cilan is back from dragging Chili down off the mountain (and has probably spent a while keeping an eye on him until he recovers, as sick as he probably was)...Iris did you really wait until February to hand out gifts to your friends? (Admittedly though, he might have a really hard time trying not to laugh if Masaomi actually wears that shirt you're thinking about handing out...)

Cilan smiles when he notices that she's wearing the hair pin that he had gifted her with a while ago...though, the mention of Excadrill makes him frown for a second. Should he say something about how unlikely it is that Excadrill might have arrived? ...Maybe, but somehow he gets the feeling that she'd try to look around for him anyway.]

Would you like any help looking for Excadrill today, Iris? I could come with you, if you'd like us to.

[Hopefully, long after that!

She doesn't know how long this holiday normally lasts, it's not part of her village's traditions, but yeah, she out this off for waaaay too long!

blinks at the kind offer, before smiling even more, shaking her head.] Nn, this is something I've got to do alone. Don't worry, I've got my instincts to rely on!

Thanks for everything, again, you really do a lot for Ash and me! Our Pokemon too.

Is he still sick? I can mix him a herbal tea that'll help if he is!

[Are you sure? He really wouldn't mind going with her, but...]

Oh, you don't have to thank me! You and Ash are my friends, so of course I'll do my best to help bring a pleasant flavor to our stay here. [...Even if he really doesn't like being here sometimes. Still, he does try to make sure Ash and Iris are happy--he's happiest when his friends are happy, you know?]

As for Chili, his health is still too poor for my tastes, but I think he's recovering. [Or at least he'd like to think so, anyway.] You don't have to make it yourself if you don't want to, but I can't imagine him having a reason to object to herbal tea.

[...Provided Iris is better at making tea than one or two previous occasions of cooking. (And even if not, Cilan might give Chili a very stern look if he says anything mean to Iris about her tea.)]

[He'll be polite if you put a ring on her finger maybe, otherwise, she's fair game for loud, screaming accusations of her trying to kill him with badly prepared tea THIS IS THE WORST TASTING DISHWATER— or, you know, he'll be quiet and accept it because he's already made Cilan angry enough for now.

... or maybe it will turn out that Iris can prepare a great cup of tea and does just fine as long as all she has to do is prepare leaves and herbs, crush them, mix them, and pour hot water.

And maybe Chili will even complement it! But there will be suspicious burn marks on the bottom of the teapot because she may or may not have used Dragonite's flames to heat up the water to the desired temperature.

[Iris looks a bit frazzled at the start of her response, which took a while due to said tea preparation, but she quickly smiles in her usual carefree manner after that.] I think he liked it, so it'll help him, get better soon, definitely!

He miiiight get sick from all the sugar he dumped into it, though. It looked like an iceberg floating in his cup...

I see... [Chili...] Nonetheless, thank you for making tea for him, Iris. I really appreciate it.

... maybe we should keep track of how much sugar he's taking in, next.

... speaking of friends, I'll be heading out. My sense says I'll find Excadrill!

[She waves through the screen, as Axew finishes up his meal and Emolga settles on her shoulder.] Monmon!

[...He's not sure why, maybe it's those last two words, but now he's finally starting to taste something akin to paranoia, as if she plans on not coming back until after she finds Excadrill, which he knows isn't gonna happen. Maybe it's just left-over worrying from what happened with Chili, but--]

Wait, Iris. [A slight pause, trying to figure out how to stall her for another second.] Before you go, there's something I want to give you, so could you wait for one moment?

[He should be there in less than a minute, but it hinges on how patient Iris is to at least let him see her in person first before she heads out. Maybe then this ridiculously paranoid feeling would go away once he sees that she is in fact fine and not about to disappear into thin air or something...]

[Of course. It's subtle, exceedingly so for Iris, but it's the tone of one bidding farewell; she can sense she'll be seeing Excadrill, but she can also sense her time here with everyone coming to an end. Chili's stunt might have increased the paranoia, which isn't what she wanted, hence the insistence on subtler goodbyes.]

... another gift?

Sure. [She looks a little confused, but there's no point in rushing out. She definitely doesn't want an overwhelming sense of finality (she'll cry otherwise), but a little closure is safe... probably.

Certainly not about to disappear into thin air, though! She'll be standing in the doorway, with a Axew riding one shoulder, Emolga the other, and Dragonite back in a pokeball.]

[He kind of made it up on the spot to keep her from leaving, but let it never be said that he wouldn't go through with it, because otherwise he would be a ~~lying liar who lies~~ bad person for saying he had something and not giving anything, so he's just a little longer than he expected to be. When Cilan shows up, he's a little out of breath, but relieved to see that she waited. Seeing her in person does make him feel better, and a little easier to tell himself that maybe he was just over thinking things...]

Thanks for waiting...ah, here. [He holds out a bag of what appears to be a bag of shiny red apples for her. It was last minute, yes, but--] These fresh apples should have a crisp, fulfilling taste--I'm sure you and your Pokemon wouldn't want to go exploring on an empty stomach, right?

[Apples? Axew blinks curiously and Emolga look very excited, grabbing at air eagerly. Iris accepts the bag with a bit of an incredulous look, before smiling in a forced, polite manner.] Gee, thanks! But, um, Cilan? [She reaches into her hair and pulls out an apple.] I'm not running low on snacks anytime soon— [Emolga quickly snatches the apple as if assuming it was offered to her.] We're not leaving on empty stomachs either, we're still full from lunch!

Even if Emolga's still too greedy to notice.

But hey, it's the thought that counts! You're always a gentleman.

[Now, she narrows her eyes suspiciously and leans close, staring him down; despite her diminutive stature imposing that she look up at him, the vibe is completely different!]

Now, 'fess up. What's the real reason?

If it was about food, you'd usually prepare at least a salad. This is suspiciously simple. Also, this place isn't that big, so either you're awfully out-of-shape— not too likely— or you went and grabbed 'em last minute.

If you've got something important to say, then, say it!

[Darnit, Cilan really should have expected that she'd have apples on hand already. (Though that's questionably unsanitary Iris, keeping food in your hair...)]

My, I can't offer more snacks to take with you? [Though, even though he says that, he can tell that she's not buying it for a second, so after a moment of being stared down and trying not to cave, he pretty much fails at that and sighs a little.] You have quite a perceptive flavor today...hm, very well, it's honesty time.

[It takes a few seconds before he actually starts talking, but--] ...To be honest, I don't think it will be very easy to find Excadrill here, if at all given what this place is like, and I suppose I was just worried that you might not be back for a while. I know what you're like, you have a stubborn taste once you set your mind to something sometimes, much like Ash or Chili...

[...And he really doesn't want a repeat performance of what happened with Chili so soon, having Iris be gone for days trying to find a Pokemon that isn't here.]

[She has to will herself not to roll her eyes at yet another variation on the ever-irritating "it's ______ time," but listens closely to everything that follows.

Being called "perceptive" (not exactly a word she was familiar with, but it sounded like a compliment!) would have made her chest swell with pride if not for the gravity of the rest of his words.

Once he's finished, she smirks, hands on her hips.]

Wanna bet on it? My instincts against your worrywart theories?

Relax, I'm not Ash and I'm definitely not Chili. I grew up in the forest, remember? I understand the signs. If it isn't safe, I'll know.

Besides, I'm not alone anymore. I learned so many things travelling with Ash and you. I have all of my Pokemon to help too! You know how dependable they are, right? It's completely different from heading out into the icy mountains with one, little Fire Type!

Relax! I'm not someone who needs to be worried about or cared for. I never was—

We'll be just fine, Mr. Connoisseur.

[Without warning or explanation, suddenly standing on tip-toes (because even a cowed Cilan is still much too tall) to give him a quick kiss— SMACK!— with the hopes of taking advantage of the resulting confusion and inaction to run awaaaaay!]

But Iris--[It's not just him being a "worrywart", things are different here! This place can have a really dangerous taste to it, he's seen what kind of things this place has done to people here, including those he considered his friends. And even on a normal day like this, what if the guys in charge of this place suddenly grab you while you're away, or the large wolf living in the forest nearby suddenly decides it likes the taste of human flesh or somethING WAIT A MINUTE DID YOU JUST KISS US!?]

H--huh? [Well congrats, your plan worked. You should be able to easily make a get away and run off because now Cilan is just standing there in confusion like did that really just happen Iris why would you resort to something like that??]

That is actually quite cute, yes. But what are the gifts for?

We never celebrated it in the Village of Dragons, but Axew really wanted to give it a try, so...

[Axew excitedly flaps his arms in her lap, making a delighted sound.] Hehe, he mostly wanted to decorate a tree!

But thanks for the present, Iris! [ Even though it wasn't at great as Cilan's hey it was really thoughtful of her! ]

Late in coming here, Mr. Pokemon Master wannabe! [Judging look, followed by a shifty one:]

[It takes Iris a short while to reply because, huh, that's weird, written messages? A little creepy, but hey, someone who knows Ash!]

[Oh, dear. It takes Ami a few minutes before she can compose herself to answer Iris. She appreciates the gifts, of course, but everything scattered all over is a bit difficult for her to handle. In fact, some time today will be devoted to sorting them all and finding places to keep them neatly.]

Thank you very much, for the herbs. You must have worked very hard to gather them all. All the patients will appreciate it.

[Iris nods cheerfully, blissfully unaware of the trouble she's caused.]
